The Vintage Offers Bespoke Wine Experiences in Hollywood
Plus, LauderAle is the best place for a dog date, two Miami restaurants are temporarily closed, and Tigger is a catdog
It’s been years since Hollywood has had a wine bar, which is bizarre because I really feel it’s a staple for every community. A few weeks ago, The Vintage on Harrison opened — a tiny little wine bar that also houses a flower store and retail wine shop.
The shop doesn’t have a list of wines by the glass. Rather, co-owner Tal Cohen asked me a few questions about what I was in the mood for, brought over four bottles, and hosted an impromptu tasting. I chose the second, a mineral-rich wine from Italy which was exactly what I wanted.
The wine paired nicely with a generous charcuterie plate. For $19, you choose three meats or cheeses and two accompaniments. The plate is served with bread and some extras. I’ve seen some anemic cheese plates, but this one makes a satisfying snack or “girl dinner”.
Tal told me that the response from the neighborhood has been good so far and he’ll plan some events like a Sunday dinner in a hidden room in the coming weeks. Since I love wine, I’ll definitely put this one on my heavy neighborhood rotation. The opening of the Vintage, along with Thanks to Harrison and J&C Oyster is bringing some new life to Hollywood. Waiting with bated breath for the new food hall to continue Hollywood’s restaurant evolution. Cheers!

Grab a Cold one During these Dog Days
Well, I surely didn’t bring the cool weather from Alaska. The heat index these past two weeks has been off the charts and last Saturday I swear I got a touch of heat stroke (or just a regular stroke — who knows for sure) after going for a walk.
Every week, I take my Frenchie, Luna, for a beer, coffee, or something. She loves to go out and meet people, she’s super well-behaved, and after scrolling Tinder and Bumble I find her much better company than many people in the dating pool around these parts.
Last Saturday, we went to LauderAle Brewery. It’s a little tough to find if you haven't been, tucked away inside Port Everglades next to the power station. Once you find it, you’ll be greeted by friendly people who love dogs as much as I do. Luna was the belle of the brewery with people stopping for pets and some snuggles.
I’m a fan of IPAs, and LauderAle’s Earth Cake Hazy is my go-to. There’s also plenty of water dishes and cold water for doggos and a rotating food truck usually parked outside (the much-loved Bo Legs BBQ is cooking tonight, by the way). You can also try to be zen at the Sunday morning yoga and beer.
I also love the brewery’s “beer it forward” program, where you can pay for a beer for a friend or just someone by title — a teacher, a first responder, a pilot, or just someone that forgot their wallet (it’s happened to me).
To put the cherry on the sundae (OK - you got me — I’d much rather have a beer than ice cream), the brewery supports the vervet monkeys that hang out by the tracks behind the brewery by contributing to their care and vetting. Monkey Business!

Square Pie City is Closed Due to Fire
Jeremiah Bullfrog’s Square Pie City is closed indefinitely due to a fire that damaged the Design District pizza shop. Square Pie announced on Instagram that it would be closed until further notice, adding, “Everyone is fine, we were closed." Sad News!
Follow Square Pie City on Instagram for updates and a reopening date.
Is Tigger a Cat or a Dog?
While doing my weekly search for adoptable dogs, I came across Tigger. Clearly, this poor creature is seeking out a dog parent for possible adoption or he thinks he’s a dog or…..???
In any event, Tigger is a 4 year-old male orange and white catdog who has been at the shelter since December. According to the shelter ,he arrived overwhelmed but is getting braver and more confident. He loves treats, a scratch pad, and catnip. Take this catdog home with you. Tigger’s number is A2530212 and he’s at kennel number B14. Tiggerific!
Batch Gastropub is the sponsor of our dog adoption section. If you adopt one of these guys (or any dog because of Miami Checklist), Batch will supply you with a gift card for the amount of the adoption from MDAS. So get a dog (or a cat), get a burger…or something like that. Contact me for details.
Tigger is one of hundreds of dogs (and cats) available at Miami-Dade Animal Services. If you’re looking to bring a new best friend into the family, this is the place to start your search. Adoptions are only done in person, and you should bring a current picture ID and proof of current address.
