Pirolo Hospitality to Open Little River Spot
Bar Bucce will open later this year with pizza, wine, and more
Macchialina in Miami (Sort of)
Since it opened in 2012, Macchialina has been one of Miami Beach’s favorite places. It’s no surprise given chef/owner Michael Pirolo’s exquisite rustic Italian dishes paired with Jacqueline Pirolo’s curated wine selections.
Many people on mainland Miami have waited with bated breath for this brother and sister team to open a restaurant on the other side of Biscayne Bay.
That moment has come with the announcement of the soon-to-come Bar Bucce. Pirolo Hospitality has announced that it has signed a lease to occupy nearly 4,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space in Little River at 7220 N. Miami Avenue.
The restaurant, Bar Bucce, is set to open sometime later this year. The restaurant and shop will serve pizza and wine, and will also serve as a wine shop and market.
Jacqueline Pirolo says, "We’ve been eyeing this neighborhood and watching it grow since its inception back in 2016. We have hosted several fun pop-ups and parties throughout the years in various spaces around the neighborhood and are so excited to finally call this location our home for our latest concept - Bar Bucce."
Once a mainly industrial area, Little River is home to Michelin-starred Ogawa, Rosie’s, La Natural, Cindy Lou’s Cookies, and Sunny’s Steakhouse (soon to reopen). Amore!

Cheap Eats at 1-800-Lucky
You know what chaps me about being a food writer in Miami? When a PR firm or an influencer, or really anyone tells me that a $25 cheeseburger is “well priced” I HATE the term “well priced”. A bag of chips is not “well priced” at ten bucks, nor is a cocktail “well priced” at twenty dollars. I’m all for forking over more money than I have a right to spend but don’t sandbag me and tell me it’s a deal when clearly it isn’t.
Now that that’s off my chest, 1-800-LUCKY is serving up some reasonably priced lunch options with its “cheap lunch eats” offerings, available Monday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m. I’ll especially go for the B Side lunch combo, the cutty chicken katsu from Gold Marquess, and the Yip dumpling sampler. Here are the options:
Jeepney
Choice of chicken adobo, pork belly salad, or grilled chicken and pineapple salad
Bside
Lunch of cebiche, spicy salmon roll, and salad
Sili
Bún noodle salad bowl of nasal marinated chicken with crispy pork and shrimp roll, rice noodles, lettuce, pickled papaya, peanuts, and herbs
Gold Marquess
Katsu curry chicken with white rice
Yip
Dim sum lunch sampler of six assorted dumplings
Usagi
Pork belly or fried chicken sando served with edamame
Shoyu Ramen
Rice pudding with yuzu caramel ($9) Well Priced!

Mom is a Drag
Mother’s Day is this Sunday and every single restaurant will host some sort of holiday brunch. Some may give Mom a rose, some may give her a glass of cheap prosecco.
But how many brunch places will give mom a fantastic time surrounded by queens as fierce as she was when you came home at 5 a.m. drunk off your ass when you were 16? Only one place: R House.
This Mother’s Day, May May 12th, take mom to R House’s drag brunch. For $65 per person, you and Mom will get a family-style menu of goodies that includes cayenne fried chicken with spicy cilantro sauce, R Cuban breakfast croissants, and cinnamon sweet French toast with guava syrup. There’s also salted chocolate fudge bites and unlimited, free-flowing mimosas, white wine sangria, and mojitos.
If that’s not enough, Mom is invited to werk it at the Mom runway contest with the winner sashaying away with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot! The afternoon is hosted by the gorgeous and talented Athena Dion for a high-energy brunch that’s far from the usual ho-hum eggs benedict and boring catch up session. Queen for a Day!

Urgent Message from Miami Dade Animal Services
I have been a proponent for dog and cat adoptions for as long as I can remember. Each week, I post an animal that needs a home in the event someone sees that sweet creature and falls in love.
It was pointed out by a friend and colleague that MDAS is a terrible place — and why am I promoting it? FOR THAT REASON! Whatever the City of Miami says…whatever the spin…MDAS is a terrible place for the dogs and cats that reside there. And I’m simply looking to get some of those sweet beings out of the system.
I adopted my darling Mimi from MDAS. The shelter volunteers do what they can but the place is overcrowded — due, mostly, to the uncaring people of Miami who “trade-in” their dogs and cats like they were Hyundais or decide that their dogs should have a litter because “it’s a good experience for their kids to see the miracle of birth” or maybe they want to backyard breed their Frenchie or Chihuahua because they think it’s easy money only to have a litter of dogs that they can’t see and drop off in a box to the shelter.
Today, MDAS has issued a plea on its site:
Urgent need for adopters and fosters: Saving lives starts with you. Due to the high number of dogs and cats in need at the shelter, we are asking our community to adopt or foster a shelter pet today.
I implore everyone who reads this to consider fostering a dog or cat to get it out of the system. Or, if you have room, adopt one. And remember, if you adopt a pet from MDAS (or anywhere), Batch Gastropub will offer you a gift card in the amount of your adoption fee (with proof).
So, adopt Lawson (pictured above), a two-year-old male terrier (number A2451700, kennel number H01), or anyone else.
Lawson is one of hundreds of dogs available at Miami-Dade Animal Services. If you’re looking to bring a new best friend into the family, this is the place to start your search. Adoptions are only done in person, and you should bring a current picture ID and proof of current address. Dogs older than four months carry a $65 adoption fee and puppies are $85 — all dogs come home fully vaccinated, are dewormed, and have been spayed/neutered. In other words, adopting a dog is the best deal in Miami. Urgent!
