If you’ve never been to Eataly, you might describe it as an Italian food hall and grocery rolled into one. A few food halls in Miami have been compared to Eataly, but none match the original in scope and quality.
Eataly is a frenetic, beautiful, and sometimes crazy ode to Italian food where you can do everything from sip espresso as you shop for olive oil to drink prosecco to eat pizza and drink Birra Moretti. In short, it’s very Italian.
I’ve been to Eataly in New York and Chicago and have loved both in so many ways. But, because I’ve lived in Miami, I’ve always had to hold myself back from the full experience of shopping for cheese and vegetables and various forms of vinegars and oils that would be impossible to bring home in a wheelie bag.
Now, I can go as hog wild as my bank account will allow when Eataly opens at Aventura Mall in less than a month.
Eataly will open its first Florida store on Thursday, June 12 at 3 p.m. The 30,000 square foot massive space will be much more than a food store. It will house two sit-down restaurants, a quick service caffe, a wine store, a cooking school, and a retail market offering both pantry and ready-to-eat products.
The two sit-down restaurants are La Pizza & La Pasta, a 300-seat restaurant offering (you guessed it) pizza and pasta, with dishes from Italy’s various regions.
At Il Pastaio (pasta maker), diners can watch their fresh pasta being made. This 90-seat restaurant is more intimate.
The caffe consists of several different counters, including,
Lavazza, a caffè featuring Lavazza coffee drinks
La Pasticceria, the pastry counter with cakes, croissants, and other baked goods
Il Gelato, with gelato and sorbetto creations
Pizza alla Pala, offering a variety of Roman-style pizzas
Panini, a counter dedicated to focaccia, panini, and farcita
Eataly will also house a cooking school with regularly scheduled classes, should you get inspired by all the food items on display.
For its opening celebration, Eataly will host 10 days of free programming with cooking classes, wine tastings, and more. Visit eventbrite.com for more information.
